Staying Creative

1. GO OUTSIDE - find a lovely place to sit with your pen and notebook. Find inspiration in your surroundings. Use your senses. Write it all down.

2. Did you have a crazy dream last night? Turn it into a short story before you forget.

3. Watch the news. Write an opinion piece on a top story.

4. Look to your left - notice the first object. Write a poem about it - even if it's just a blue cup or your cat.

5. MUSIC. Music spawns emotion and creativity. Put some music on you normally would not listen to - and write about it. How does it make you feel? What images show up in your mind?

6. DRAW. I'll be the first to admit that I can not draw. My skills never progressed past my kindergarten classroom. However, that doesn't matter! Even if you just scribble colors or stick figures - you are still creating something.

7. Carry a tiny journal in your pocket. Ideas hit us at the strangest times. Take a second to write them down before you forget. NO - don't tweet it real quick. Write it down in your tiny journal.

As the team leader of this company, staying creative is what keeps my blood flowing. I'm always attempting to create something I am proud of - or that keeps my brain WORKING. Most of my teammates agree - it's almost impossible to sit in an office and pound out 100 different ways a day structuring the concept of a business model after conceptualizing the main idea, then come home and feel like not writing even a single word. We all know this feeling. I don't want to get near my laptop much less a pen and paper. Now about you, If you think you're not so creative;
